What happened the rest of the week?

Wednesday: Procrastination Rules

Wednesday I just could not get in the mood to run after my big round of workouts on Tuesday. I brought my gear to run over lunch and I opted to run some errands instead. When I got home I changed into my running gear right away, but then decided I was hungry and opted to make dinner instead. Oh well, I decided not to beat myself up about it.

Thursday: Back in the Pool and Company on the Run

It was back in the pool for swim clinic early Thursday morning. I would estimate that about six of the registered 14 people showed up. I swam through my workout and at one point the instructor told me that my hands were entering the water with my pinkie finger first. I need to enter with my thumb first to engage my back muscles and use more strength. At first it felt really awkward, but soon afterwards I was able to notice that I was feeling more powerful. I got about 1750 m in that morning, and managed to meet another teammate in the locker room after class!

After my failed attempt to run on Wednesday I figured I'd better get my act in gear for a run over lunch today. Just as lunch hour was approaching my friend DGB wanted to know if I wanted some company on my run. She's running Melissa's as well in a couple of weeks and is trying to get her runs in ahead of the race. We took off for a fantastic run around the river. It wasn't quite as fast as Tuesday's run, but it was still a really good pace and we were able to keep a good conversation going the entire time. We had a sprint for the finish and wound up running 3.9 miles together.

Friday: Today Really is a Rest Day

No plans for Friday, just a day off. I did enjoy some Chinese food and some time with my niece and sister-in-law though! For some reason my niece is fascinated with my toes. Whenever I come visit she likes to pinch my big toes and apparently I'm the only person she does this too. I feel flattered!

Saturday: Long Run Day

I didn't really have a plan for what I wanted to run today, so I enjoyed a chance to sleep in, then relaxed after breakfast. I finally made it out the door just after noon for a run around my neighbourhood. I had a general idea of where I wanted to run, so I just went with it. I was running at a pretty good pace too. There wasn't a cloud in the sky so it was warming up nicely, but every once in awhile a brisk breeze would come through. Unusual for me, but I headed out for my run in shorts today. I haven't run a long run in shorts in I don't know how long. I spent the first mile or two adjusting my shorts (right, this is why I don't like running in shorts...). If I wasn't fiddling with my shorts then I was trying to adjust and push my water belt down around my hips. Finally we all came to a mutual understanding (or I got tired of fiddling) and I never thought about them for the rest of the run. I finished up with 8 miles.

As for Sunday... I have a group ride scheduled tomorrow with the team which I'm really looking forward to. I had my shifter adjusted today, so hopefully I won't have issues getting in to the big chain ring like I did on Tuesday.

And for next week... I am officially on my coach's plan. She sent me my workout schedule for the next few weeks on Friday and it looks like it is going to be pretty good!

Good for you for finally pushing yourself out that door to run!

Have fun as you officially start your new training program!
