Front Brakes Are Good

Normally I swim on Thursday mornings with my group at the Y, but I also had a 45 min bike on the schedule too. With this week being the Commuter Challenge I really wanted to ride my bike to work today. I figured I’d ride and then swim on my own later. I was way overdressed for my ride, but it was feeling great to be outside. At one point during the ride I heard a little metallic ping of something hitting my bike frame and bouncing off. Wasn’t sure what it was, and it barely registered. When I got to work I noticed that my front brakes did not look right. It turns out that what I heard was the back nut coming off of my front brake calliper and winging off my bike:

Luckily there is a bike shop a few blocks away from work, so I dropped it off as soon as they were open at 10 am. I got a little worried when at 3:30 I hadn’t heard back from them. Apparently they hadn’t located a replacement yet… So much for my good intentions for the Commuter Challenge! Debbie gave me a ride home, and then later in the evening…phew! A replacement part was found. Thank goodness. Now I just have to hope that it doesn’t snow on Saturday because I’m hoping for a long bike ride!

Yesterday was a sad, sad day… My beloved sushi suit bit the dust as the rear end of the suit was all of a sudden…somewhat see-through! I had a thought this morning that I still have swim suits from years ago that I could probably still wear, yet most of my competition suits seem to conk out at 6 months. (Okay, I could wear these old suits, but it doesn't mean that I would.) I mentioned this to Debbie…and that I had some of these swimsuits from circa 8th grade or so… I don’t actually use them anymore, I just have them in a drawer somewhere. Debbie really thought I should throw them out:DSCN0015

So here we go Debbie, my suits are now in the discard pile in my spare bedroom! Dontcha just love that neon suit? And I would not recommend getting the white and black suit with the bubbles wet at all. White is not an opaque kind of colour for swimsuits...DSCN0017

My old competetition suits are long gone but man did I keep them well into their retirement. We used to always wear drag suits and we would be proud of how many holes, how many parts were see through, how much it stretched out. I had to get rid of all those drag suits after I graduated college because somehow it's not as cool in lap-swimmer world to look like someone 'off the street' as my mom would say.

Yes, snow, in June. And, within living memory, July, August, and September. And all the other months too. We're not talking about heavy frost, or hail. We get that too. But no hurricanes. Well, except in Nova Scotia sometimes. That ought to be good for something.

Love the suit collection! Could have done like Carlee and worn them all at once.

Actually, just looked, and the S word has disappeared from the forecast for Sat. hmmmmmm.

Yikes on the brake issue! Glad you didn't find out the hard way that was the problem.

And I too wish swimsuits lasted longer. Before I began swimming I never knew they really wore out.

Snow, the joys of living here in the great white north.

Good job they found a replacement for you.

I looked at the Sushi swimsuit website a week or so ago, but couldn't figure out how to purchase anything.

Highwood Pass is ON BABY!!! Keith and I are meeting at 10:00am to cycle up. I have a 3 hour hilly ride then a 30 in. steady run after. I'll be pedaling in the snow if I have to too -- ain't nothing going to stop me and my date with Highwood.

Hahahahahaha!! Our paths may cross...

Dress warm!! :) :) :)

My sister had a red swimsuit with white polka dots when we were little. She got tan through the white and had a polka dot tan for the whole summer. I now shy away from any swimsuit with white on it if it isn't lined.

Look at all those suits! LOL!

Did you say snow???

Sorry to hear that a missing bike part got in the way of completing your commuter challgne, but glad to hear she's all fixed up.

Have a great weekend!

Dont the brakes just slow you down ?
Keep up the training and avoid the snow if you can

You're throwing out your old suits? I have held on to mine thus far. Their kind of like running shoes to me... Not ready to let them go yet!

Brakes are definitely a good thing. Thanks also for the info on the pans. I need to pick up some of that Bartenders stuff to clean them, just need to get to Target (I know you said Wal-mart has it, but I can't shop there!) but really liking them. Need to start cooking more and really testing them out!

Sorry about the favourite suit dying. Sure I dissed the sushi tank top, but I did actually like it in bathing suit form...it made more sense that way.

Just thought I'd let you know that your epic run home the other day inspired me to run home from work yesterday! Thanks!

It's such an awesom suit too, my girlfriend has the same one. But she was just commenting yesterday that hers (about 6-7 months old as well), is also at the end of the rope. :-/
