When it comes to workouts I like to get them done in the morning or over lunch. There is just something about getting home after work that zaps my motivation for doing a lot of stuff. Remind me again why I signed up for a swim class at 9 pm?? Last night it just felt so comfortable sitting on the couch and catching up on Sunday’s episode of the Amazing Race. I finally pried myself off the cushions and went upstairs to change and pack my swim bag. Finlay followed me upstairs and decided to go to bed. I may have been a little jealous of my dog…
When I got to the pool I was ready to go though! It is always motivating to work out with my teammates. Richelle gave us a lot of drills to work on that would really encourage us to be mindful of our stroke and make us concentrate on keeping our elbows high in the water. I’m learning something new every swim class which is amazing!
Sadly our Tuesday night outside rides have been cancelled for the remainder of the year. It just is getting dark way too early these days. We start indoor training rides later in October. I’ll probably try to scoot out of work early to see if I can get in a quick ride from my house instead. Of course that is weather dependent! We’ve had some crazy wind storms here lately that would make biking not a lot of fun. Sigh…just another reminder that winter is on its way here! And to think we had record high temperatures in the 30s last week… Oh well, that’s Calgary for you!

Oh my...seriously by 9PM I just don't htink there is any way I would be motivated to go. Yet another way in which you blow my mind
Once I get home from work and settled, I have a hard time being motivated to do anything!
At least you know it's worth it to drag your butt to the pool to work with your team mates.
Yikes, I can't even imagine getting out of the house at 9pm to go swimming. Good for you!
Wow, a swim class at 9pm? Heck, no pools I know of are even open that late (most close at 7-8pm). But I wouldn't mind having some signs of winter (or even fall, for that matter). You can keep the wind & snow, though :-)
I have a little more trouble getting motivated in the afternoon too, but I began this whole bidness by running late at night.
sounds like my week, monday evening swim class at 9pm, hard to get moving, tuesday rides are a bust now too cuz it's getting dark :( guess this is the downside of loving the tri stuff eh?
Winter -- UGH. I had to break down and turn the furnace on. :)
Way to go for hauling yourself out to that 9:00pm swim time -- man, I'm in bed by 8:00pm. All my friends know it too -- last night I was talking to Susi, and she ended the conversation, "Oh! It's 8 o'clock -- it's your bedtime." LOL!! :) :)
That is one late swim class. Yes, it's much easier to blow off training in the evenings. The hardest part is just getting started.
Way to go!
OMG. I have been gone too long! A full ironman??? Crazy....
We have speedwork at the track in the winter at 8pm, I hate it, especially when it's cold and snowing. I just want to stay in.
I am definitely a morning person.
But I do feel great once I've done it! So go do it!
Even though I dread my alarm going off at 5 a.m. on Monday mornings, I think given the choice I'd go with the early morning swim class over 9 p.m.
lately i struggle with attempting both am and pm workouts -- pull yourself out of bed half-awake vs resist the pull of gravity into bed :)
9pm is rather late. i'd have trouble falling asleep when i did get home later! swimming though, maybe i'd pass out instantly.
9 pm!!
I am often jealous of my rabbit. In fact, I dare say that any loved pet has a better life than their human!
It always makes me sad when it starts to get dark out early. Although it is kind of cozy too :) Hang in there!!
There is nothing like swimming with a group of people! Just makes that much of a difference. But, I am right there with you... I would have had a hard time getting to the pool in the evening, especially at 9pm! That's my bed time!
BTW, I have something for you on my blog post today!
I could never do a 9pm swim workout. There's lots of times I'm in bed by 9pm. My body treats a swim as a wake up call, and I'm usually ready to rock and roll afterward, no matter how tired I was before the swim. Good for you, and have fun with it!
9pm used be the only times that I could get to lane swimming at the local pool. I totally know what you mean about it being way too late. The kid's were sleeping and my hubby was in his pyjamas and I was off to the pool. Oh well...you got it done and that is what matters...good for you.
I hear ya about evening group swims!
It works out best for me because of the kids, but dang it's hard to get going after a long day.
Swimming at 9 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT? That's bedtime! I didn't know there were triathletes who stay up that late!
Kudos to you for getting there, though!
