How about a little hockey with that spin?

Spin class tonight was another tough one!  We keep pounding out the strength sets.  I’d tell you what all we did, but truthfully I can’t even remember what we did!  The one thing that sticks in my mind was a wicked standing set: 3 min stand, 30 sec high cadence sitting, 2:30 standing, 30 sec high cadence sitting, 2:00…1:30…you get the idea.  Part way through Angie mentioned that if we lived in a house with stairs we may need some help getting up those stairs.  I’ll see if I can recruit Finlay to help, but I somehow doubt my 15 lb dog will do much more than lick my face in encouragement.

The guys at Bow Cycle have a TV set up over the checkout register and it was set to the men’s Canada versus Norway hockey game.  It was great inspiration to watch them win convincingly 8-0.  I know a few folks have commented that both the men’s and women’s hockey team have really pounded their opponents.  True enough, but I think they really want to send a message that they are here for gold…so be it.  Core after class was a total gong show as a few of us were trying to watch the men’s figure skating (including Angie) so we haphazardly made it through 10 minutes, then called it quits.

Are you watching the Olympics?  I am soaking up as much as possible.  My office is even broadcasting the games in our foyer during the day.  Now that I’ve tried a few of these winter sports lately (curling, skiing, skating) I have an even bigger appreciation of the events.

And in case you have ever looked at a speed skater’s thighs and thought…”wow…those are huge!” you’d be right.  Jeremy Wotherspoon’s thighs each measure 70 cm.  Wow.  I’m going to go measure mine right now to see how they stack up.

Alright…being that it is 10:00 pm I guess I should attempt to tackle those stairs in my house and head to bed.  Hope everyone is having a great week!!

The good news is, if you need a rest up the stairs, Finlay will keep you company :)

Man do I love the Olympics. And Jeremy Wotherspoon's thighs are not only 70cm, but that's 70cm with 9% body fat...that is a lot of muscle. Crazy crazy crazy. Do you remember Curt Harnett? (cyclist in the summer games) After seeing the bit on Jeremy's thighs, I wondered how big Curt Harnett's were in his prime.

And regarding the hockey- are they supposed to go "easy" on the other teams? That would be insulting to the other teams and the sport. The games will get closer as the tournament progresses

Awesome job at Spin class! My gym has been airing some footage too and I kept sneaking a peak yesterday. Can't get enough!

My favourite so far has been Snowboard Cross, both mens' and ladies'. Maelle yesterday was AMAZING.

I do some 30 sec alternating sitting and standing. Those long intervals must be brutal...

I watched some figure skating last night. It was good. As far as the thighs go... I triathlete, and as such, I haz skinny legs!

I think Leana forgot a number in her post.

The Olympics this year are stellar. I actually love watching the Biathlon races that are going on. It seems that there is a ton of excitement locally for all of the cross country events...

I agree --- in any sport, ypu perform your best. Hockey players shouldn't dumb down their skills -- can you imagine seeing a 10km race where a runner dumbs down his performance? Absurd. Those people who are complaining are the same ones who sit around and say that running will destroy their knees and that if they went to the gym, weights would make them "bigger." Dorks.

Curling is the best! I get a kick out of it every time I watch. And by the way, I am rooting for the Canadian men's hockey team because of Sidney Crosby - our Pittsburgh hero! :)

I'm loving all the Olympics! Tonight was amazing - Lindsey Vonn wins the women's downhill and did you catch Shaun White on the halfpipe? Incredible!

The last two days at work I've watched curling during my lunch break. One of these days I might understand it.

i looooooove the olympics. love love love.

as far as some of the hockey scores... this isn't youth hockey where "everyone plays" and all that mumbo jumbo. some of these people are pros and get paid to play so if they get whooped/shut out then oh well! it's the olympics for pete's sake! :)

Uh-oh, I feel kinda guilty that I have not watched a single minute of the Olympics. I should really find out what "curling" is one day. I just heard for the first time recently that it is a sport and not something one does to their hair, LOL.

You're so lucky they play the Olympics at work! I have no access to network coverage. Heading to my parents' this weekend, though, and am looking forward to watching some of it!
