The sick ward

Sigh…this week has been a total bust for workouts.  I have done zip, zilch, nada…  I listened to everyone’s advice and took Tuesday off and Wednesday as well.  I talked to Richelle yesterday (as Angie was on her way back from Cuba) and she told me to just rest Wednesday night and be in bed by 9 pm.  I think that as endurance athletes we have a really hard time with taking rest days when we are sick.  Whether we are worried about losing fitness or if it is because we feel guilty for skipping workouts I’m not sure.  I know that I need to be told that it is okay to rest because you are sick.  And well…it seems like people have been sick for several weeks on end around here so hopefully I can avoid that.

I think Finlay had some sympathy pains on Wednesday.  He didn’t want to eat all day…even turning down cheese!  In the evening he was plastered to the couch next to me.  CIMG5315

I was wondering if a trip to the vet was going to be in order, but when we headed upstairs to bed he spied a squeaky ball!  He ran around with it for a bit making tons of noise, then settled in upstairs.  If he is running around with a squeaky ball then he must be okay!

After spending a couple of days in prime shape to belt out Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes” since my voice was so husky I think things have finally turned a corner.  Today was the first day I woke up not feeling like I had swallowed a pack of razor blades, so I guess we are off to a good start!  Finlay ate some breakfast too so he must be doing better as well.

One thing I didn’t get a chance to mention, was that we had a Team Tri Life party on Saturday night!  It was great to get together and chat with everyone and to see folks wearing something other than the usual spandex!  Caroline even made a triathlon themed cake which I thought was pretty cool (and pretty darn tasty too)!DSCN2807

Glad you took some time off to get well. I used to find it hard to do so but not any more after having ended up getting even worse and needing to take even more time off.

Believe it or not, I finally posted that tag from a while back!!

Glad you're feeling better. I agree it is hard to take days off but they are often needed. It's not like your race is in two weeks, you have time. I once read somewhere that you don't actually start to lose fitness unless you take more than 14 days off in a row.

Love that cake!

SO glad you took the time off -- if you didn't things could have gotten a lot worse!! Good choice Leana! :) :)

That pic of Finlay is sooo cute!! Awwww! Poor little dog -- his Mom was feeling sick and he was sad too. :) :)

That cake is so awesome!!!!

Take care and keep listening to your body. :)

That is a great looking cake! When are you planning on getting back in the saddle? I would give it a couple of more days...

Great news you are feeling better. At least you were thinking of the Kim Carnes version of the song and not one of the parodies like "Betty Crocker's Thighs."

Rest, even if it is frustrating is the best thing. I didn't take enough time off last time I got sick, and 2 days later I was even more sick.

pets just know when you need a little tlc .. they are priceless.

So much for Canadian Idol!!!! Rest is your friend but it's a learned process, wait until you get older.....

I hope you feel 100% better soon! I also hate taking time off for sickness. But I try to remind myself it is better to take a few days off then prolong it for weeks if you try to train through it!
