Working Lunches

I feel like I’m in a bit of no man’s land when it comes to finding the time to swim.  Early mornings just aren’t working and I’m still finding nights difficult.

9:00 pm is definitely the witching hour for me!  In university I had to quit studying at 9 as I just couldn’t comprehend things anymore.  Going to the movies after 9 pm?  I will, without a doubt, fall asleep.  Talk to me on the phone and I feel like I’m having difficulty holding up my end of the conversation.

So yesterday I gave lunch swimming another go.  It was a great way to break up the day and my swim went really well.  Loved it!  It does take quite a chunk out of the day (15 minute walk each way, plus the one hour workout and the time to shower and get ready).  Thankfully we do have some flexibility in our hours at work, so it is great to know that a lunch swim can be a great backup plan.

In other lunch workout news I met up with Kelly to knock out a 30 minute run today.  I wanted to test out my legs to see if they still knew how to run sub-10 minute miles.  Luckily they responded and the run in the sun was great!  I have my first race of the season on Saturday – the St. Patrick’s Day 10K – so I wanted to push the pace a tiny bit more than I have in the last few weeks.  I’m not expecting a PR on Saturday, but I think I should be able to crank out a half decent time.

Who else is going to be racing with me on Saturday? :)

Running in the 10K on Sat is the theory. In practice, my last bunch of runs my legs have pooped out at the 30 minute mark. I think I overdid it during the Hypo Half and they haven't fully recovered yet. I'm going to try an easy run tomorrow and see how I feel, or rather, how my legs feel about it. Watch for the moustache!

I am pretty useless after 9pm myself! Glad to hear you have some flexibility with your work hours and can take advantage of a lunch time swim if need be! Good luck this weekend!

If I don't get swims done in the morning or at lunch, they just don't get done. Swimming is so hard because of limited pool hours. Great job getting out there!

I can't believe that you do anything after 9pm! I'm so done that it isn't even funny! I'm racing 10 miles on Sunday! Good luck with your race!!!

A few of the Wooo Hooo's have signed up for the St. Paddy's run but I'm not going to this year.

Nice that you can swim at lunch and you have flex hours...that really makes for a nice work environment...good luck on Saturday, show your Green!

I wish I had more flexibility for a longer lunch so I could fit in some more miles. I'm rushed as it is when I run an 8K by the time I get ready and then freshened up after.

Great job on the swim & run. Hope you have a good race this weekend!

I'm running my first race of the year this weekend too. I'm running a 5k, something I haven't done in like 5 years.

It's weird, I actually find swimming at lunch easier logisitically than running---you'd think it would be the opposite. Good job getting in that lunch time swim. I've pretty much decided I'm going to do it at least once a week during training.

Finding time to swim is tough for me too! I used to swim at lunch because I worked from home on Tu and Th... Not so much anymore. I need to swim EARLY on Wednesday, then Fridays, I swim in the evening but have officially declared it "My Time". I'm enjoying it, alot...

I'm racing my first-ever 10K on Saturday. It'll be interesting to compare the experiences of a newbie and a veteran.

Good luck to you on yours!!

Good job at making things work the best you can! It is awesome that your work gives you the flexibility to swim at lunch. :)

Good luck this weekend!!

I don't know how you triathletes find enough time in a day to do all three sports.

Good luck on your 10K!!

I wish there was a good st patricks race around here but they only have one and its a 5 miler and I am not really feeling that plus it supposed to rain here!

I just found out that my work place has showers in the next door building so I could try a lunch workout but that would require walking to the other building, changing, running, showering and walking back to my blding...it may just be too much and I dont think i could disappear from work for more than an hour!

I'm dunzo after 9pm too. Absolutely worthless.

There's a 5k & 10 miler this Saturday - I'm waiting to see what my workday will look like if I can squeeze at least the 5k in.

Good luck at your 10k!
