I wonder how this is going to affect my taper..??

When I was making up my Goofy Challenge training schedule I started with Jeff Galloway's plan and started modifying it to include back to back runs on weekends. The schedule of the really long runs essentially remained the same, and Galloway's plan called for a pretty long taper. My last long runs will be December 15 and 16 with a taper all the way to the races on January 12 and 13. Someone suggested that having them be on 22 and 23 might be more ideal, but that it might be tough being so close to Christmas. Well, as it turns out I'm glad that I won't have that 10 mi/20 mi fun weekend on the 22 and 23....
---
It took me nearly two weeks of chatting with the airlines, but now that I have confirmed seats I can finally blog about it - I'll be leaving for Singapore on December 21 and arriving on the 23 (gotta love that whole crossing the date line thing). I'll be in Singapore for Christmas, then heading to Perth, Australia on Boxing Day and hanging out over New Year's. I'm not sure how all of this traveling is going to impact my running schedule, but to tell you the truth I'm excited that I'll get to run up and down Orchard Road in Singapore...
...or through one of the parks or along the beach in Perth...
Although I have to confess that I am looking forward to consuming loads of chilli crab, Singapore Slings and Tiger beer in Singapore, and ridiculous amount of fish and chips and wine in Perth. I wonder how all of that will fare as a pre-run meal.

Running while traveling was so hard for me. Much had to do with the circumstances. I think next time I'll make more definite plans and back up plans. I didn't always know what I was going to encounter when I was gone this summer.

I'm heading to Las Vegas next weekend for a conference and to visit my brother and his family. I hoping this trip will be a little better than the last one as far as exercise goes. I'm used to the heat - I just need to make a plan and a backup plan.

What a wonderful wonderful Christmas! I think some leisurely runs to see the sites are in order, and if you've done your training right it will all still be with you for Goofy!

Build your base between now and mid-December and you'll be fine. Get some maintenance runs in when you can, but otherwise, don't be afraid to take some time off.

Build and maintain...like hot fire.
