A spur of the moment decision

Yesterday I posted about the possibility of snow in this crazy town that I live in, and now it has come to fruition. I went out over lunch and a few tiny flakes were flying around the air, and looking out the window now it is definitely snowing. Thanks Angry - I fully realize that this is what I get for living in Canada. I shall think about stocking up on Under Armour, although my UA ColdGear running tights are quite possibly my least favourite pair (next to some Adidas ones I own that are not for any type of cold weather running). Seriously....no drawstring waist? Who wants to run around hiking those bad boys up every five minutes? Anyhow...I digress. I keep anxiously watching the weather pages hoping that the rain predictions go away for this weekend so I can attempt to hang out with bears and get a hike in up in Banff. The weather for Saturday in Banff? High of 46F/8C and low of 37F/3C with rain. This morning I am perusing the Calgary Roadrunners site and I see multiple ads for people selling bibs for this weekend's very popular (and small) Melissa's Road Race in Banff. There is a 10K and half marathon, and when registration opened up for it earlier this year the race sold out the same day. I honestly never really thought about doing this race, but seeing all those ads made me think....hmmm, that should be fun. Of course I totally chose to not focus on the weather forecast when I thought that. Anyhow, I e-mailed one of the ads and she still had a 10K entry to sell since she injured herself. If all goes well I'll take her spot...BUT...at bib number pick up you can pay $5 to transfer your registration to someone else, so I will actually be running as me. So there we go...I think I'm racing this weekend. In Banff...in the rain...kind of like the Banff Citizen's Race. I will not be racing for any PR though. And I'm still hoping to hike this weekend, hopefully without the bears.

As a side note to my whole bear tangent, a bear walked into Rockyview Hospital here in town on Sunday. I run past Rockyview Hospital every time I run around Glenmore Reservoir. Next time I'll keep an eye out for the fuzzy guys when I'm running that pathway...

Oh damn, that's two shots at me. I am going to buy some Under Armour and make myself feel better.

Cold and rain. I'm not sure there is any weather more miserable than that in all the land. Ugh.

Amanda - I know...I am a racing nut. I even had a half marathon bib offered to me for free, but after I'd already committed to purchasing the 10K bib. I realized I could run the half at a drop of a hat and that I would do just fine, but I opted to stick with the 10K regardless.

Angry - Oh, sorry for the shots. Truthfully, I have a few UA things that I lurve including this terrific green jacket ($20 at the outlet store...), but for some reason the running tights just don't do it for me. So far Sugoi makes my favorite running tights...

Snow in September, what in the world. I don't think I would want to live where that is possible. Stay warm.

Hi Leana, you have a great blog here.
I have run the Policeman's half twice now and the Canmore 1/2 in September.
I really enjoyed the Canmore one much better. Do you know anyone that wants to buy the 2008 Policeman's half entry. I am selling mine this year, I
have not trained. I will sell it for
$40.00 because it costs 10.00 to transfer a name on the website. Let me know. Thank you. Sandy Kimball
