Record Snowfall

Yesterday I was ready to bike into work. I checked the weather forecast before I headed out and it looked innocent enough. There was a chance of some flurries but it didn't look too major. As I pulled out of the driveway there was the odd snowflake blowing in the wind, but it was coming down a bit more by the time I met up with Neil at Edworthy. Halfway through the ride in the snow was coming down so much that my glasses were covered and I couldn't ride with them on anymore. (Thankfully my eyesight isn't so bad that I can still see respectably without the spectacles.) I made it into work in one piece, and then the rest of the morning proceeded to look like this:

By noon we had received a record snowfall for this time of year - 23 cm or 9 in. The sun came out over lunch and things looked to improve until another storm blew in at 3:00. Needless to say, I wasn't too keen on biking back to the car in that weather so I got a ride instead. Luckily the snow quit and things cleared up well enough that I could ride in this morning though, on the official Bike to Work day.

On tap for this weekend? 9 miles of running tomorrow, and hopefully a bike ride on Sunday when the weather is forecasted to be 20 deg C (68 deg F).

Oh hey, I didn't know about bike-to-work-day - maybe because I live and work in the NW? I'd heard about it in previous years, but I thought it was in May or June.

From the locations of those neat-o bike stations, it's more like bike-to-downtown-from-south-Calgary-day, which wouldn't have worked for me anyway :(

Way to use that great new commuting vehicle of yours!

Where are you running tomorrow?

Ha, that’s why I always check the forecast before getting on the bike. Especially if you’re riding to work. You are SuperGirl!

I would have cried. I would have just flung my bike in some bushes at the side of the road and thrown a temper tantrum. You Canadians are so... patient!

Way to go on actually following through and biking to work. So is cycling just cross training, or is this going in a more serious direction?

Was it Bike to Work day in the US too?
