It rained all day Tuesday...with the exception of a short window between 3:00 and 6:00 pm. I was pretty convinced that boot camp was going to be a no go, however most of us showed up in time for our 7:00 workout at Edworthy Park. At first it just drizzled while we ran a couple of laps around the park. As soon as we got into our circuit training with tubing the rain started to get heavier. And heavier. We all wanted to stick it out and keep working out hard in the rain though. With rivulets running down your face you feel kind of hard core for working out. Dedicated. By the time class was over I was soaked and ready to hit the pool so I drove over to the Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic Centre. I got there a bit early for adult lane swim, but since the pool was pretty quiet (smaller than expected turn out for lessons) I was able to start getting some laps in. I tried out a front crawl. It went okay except my goggles weren't sealing and I got a bit tired of having to empty water from them on a continuous basis. Angry was right...land aerobic fitness is a whole other ball game from aquatic aerobic fitness. That front crawl was a workout! I mostly swam a breaststroke while I was in the pool and I can keep that up forever... It was enough to let me know that I can definitely swim 500m in the pool at the tri in August, whether I front crawl, breaststroke or do a combo of both. I wound up putting in about 1250m last night.
So armed with the knowledge that I can indeed still swim I entered the Strathmore Women's Triathlon this morning. It is a 500m pool swim, 20k bike, 5k run on August 10th. My goals leading up to this race are:
- To get to the pool at least twice a week.
- To get some new goggles that don't leak.
- To work on my front crawl so that I won't have to breaststroke during the 500m swim.

So awesome that you signed up for a tri! I hope the training goes well (something tells me it will) and I wish you the best of luck :)
And yeah, something hardcore about working out in the rain...shows the dedication...something that the average joe doesn't do :)
You did 1250 *after* the boot camp? Now *that* is hard core!
Congrats on signing up for the tri! Good luck!
Man, you've got it easy -- my tri is ~1100m (1K) in a lake! I wish I could do 500m in a pool for it :)
wooohoo!! Triathlon is in sights, welcome to the world of multisport.
