So the response was overwhelming. All of you told me to sit back and take it easy and just enjoy the taper because this is what tapering is all about! I do want to ride to work tomorrow, but I may just park around Edworthy and make it a really short ride, just to make sure things are clicking with the bike okay. I totally felt like the true blonde I am as I tried to explain what happened to my wheel to the cute guy behind the service counter at the bike shop yesterday, and could he *pretty, pretty please* show me how to change my flat..?? He looked at the busted tube and figured it must have been a manufacturer's defect so he gave me a replacement one for free...and apparently a better tube than the first one I'd bought too! Later that evening I once again got in touch with my (blonde) roots as it took me forever to figure out how to get the back wheel back on the bike and I was covered in grease when I was done. Sigh...

So it was back to the pool this morning. I was running a bit late so I only had time to crank out 1000m. I believe my Y pool is still closed today so it was back to the city pool. There are 6 lanes, so you have two lanes each for the slow, medium and fast swimmers. The slow lanes are full of the really slow breast stroke folks. The fast lanes have the men that swim in their itty bitty Speedos and other serious looking folks that I don't dare attempt to share lane space with. So I normally head for the medium speed lanes which somehow or other also attracts some of the slower breast stroke people and I'll be the only one front crawling. The medium speed lanes were full of them when I arrived this morning. I decided to buck up and try my hand at the fast lane. I picked the lane where there was only one other guy swimming in it. He was fast and I couldn't keep up, but I was able to move out of the way at the corner when he was ready to pass and hopefully I wasn't in his way too much. I have to say I'll be happy to get back to the slightly more quiet pool at the Y though. Apparently someone had thrown some bricks at the windows on Friday night. One hit hard enough to shatter the glass into the pool so they've spent this week trying to clean up from that.

Glad you are taking it easy during taper. That first bike tire change can sometimes be a little bit of a pain. Better to have to do it in the comfort of your home.
Tapering is hard...I think it's the hardest part of training actually so totally get the problem you are having. Hey you saw my mid-training freak out...imagine what my taper will be like!
You get out of the way? You are a fast swimmer's dream!
I feel you on tapering. Yucky and boring. I hope you have a good book!
