Last night a wicked thunderstorm rolled through Calgary, dropping 72 mm (2.8 in) of rain in 30 minutes and then rain continued throughout the night. Roads turned into rivers, cars were stranded, planes were delayed. A home in my neighborhood was struck by lightning and it went up in flames.
Where was I? Sitting in a darkened movie theater watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Totally oblivious to what was happening outside. By the time I came out the worst of the rain had subsided, and apart from some big puddles on the road and some traffic lights that were out, it didn't look too bad. Who knew I missed so much outside?
