Three Things Thursday

  1. Why is it that when you lean forward on your bike to drink from your aero bottle that it is the perfect position for all of the snot to promptly run out of your nose?  Lets just say that I’m getting good at the farmer blow (aka snot rocket)…
  2. The weather in Calgary has been conspiring against us lately.  It will be beautiful in the day, with thunderstorms rolling in just as it is time to leave work.  Fingers crossed for some nice weather this afternoon as I have a two hour ride.
  3. Yesterday I ran some half marathon pace intervals over lunch.  My legs were zonked and it was so hard to hold pace.  After I was done running I was waiting at an intersection to cross and I actually had to sit down on a nearby ledge it was that hard to stand up.  Then jump to 2:00 pm where we had a fire drill at work.  And I work on the 30th floor.  If my legs weren’t unhappy before that, they sure were unhappy after that.  Very tight calves today!

Slow Tuesday...

Honestly my legs have been feeling a bit tired lately. I gave the legs a bit of a rest, but then got out on Tuesday for my scheduled 5 mile run. I opted to head out to Shouldice (again) because it is so nice and flat out there (plus I really do like running by the river). We had a thunderstorm warning in effect last night, but the sky was clear and blue, no sign of an impending storm. I think after last Tuesday's thunderstorm and flash flood that a lot of people opted to stay home because the pathways were eerily quiet. I ran nice and slow, and felt great the whole way. No tired legs. I have to say I really enjoyed the quiet to think and look around at the scenery.

I'm excited about my Banff Citizen's 10K this weekend. The course has an alternate route, just in case of animal activity along the primary pathway through Sundance Canyon. Interesting, eh? The only bad part is the forecast is calling for rain and a high of 48 deg F. Here's hoping the forecasters are wrong...

Colour me oblivious

Last night a wicked thunderstorm rolled through Calgary, dropping 72 mm (2.8 in) of rain in 30 minutes and then rain continued throughout the night. Roads turned into rivers, cars were stranded, planes were delayed. A home in my neighborhood was struck by lightning and it went up in flames.

Where was I? Sitting in a darkened movie theater watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Totally oblivious to what was happening outside. By the time I came out the worst of the rain had subsided, and apart from some big puddles on the road and some traffic lights that were out, it didn't look too bad. Who knew I missed so much outside?
