Keep strong, keep standing.

Tonight’s workout at Bow Cycle was another doozy!  Just when I think that Angie couldn’t find new ways to push us she does!  We had another strength based workout tonight that was based off of standing and surging.  Lots of single leg and a whole lotta standing.  We did a simulated hill climb with 2 minutes of low cadence then a minute standing.  We also did 3 x 3:00 standing intervals.  My legs were shaking!  All said and done it was about 1:45 on the bike.  I was worried I would fall into a crumpled heap on the floor when I tried to get off my bike.  Tomorrow is going to be interesting going up and down stairs!

Often Richelle asks me for song suggestions for spinning class.  Lately she’s had a few good ones, but she hasn’t sent me her list.  I kept my iPhone handy and every time a song came on that I liked I tagged it with the super handy Shazam app.  My friend Kelly was also wanting me to note any songs that she liked.  I’m not one to play around with my phone during exercise but it came in handy at a few points tonight (including updating my FB status as soon as the workout was done…sorry Angie!).

On a completely different note, something strange and weird happened as I was loading my bike into my car before heading to spin class.  My garage door was up and a lady driving a minivan drove around the roundabout outside my house and stopped.  She got out and wondered if she could ask me some questions.  She was wondering if people in my area had kids or not.  She said she was leaving her husband and she thought she could afford a place around here, but she has three kids.  I didn’t really know what to say since I was pretty shocked that she was so forthright.  I chatted with her briefly then wished her luck with her decision.  She told me that, yes, she had to leave because it wasn’t safe for her or the children and she really needed to get out.  I didn’t really know what to say.  If I would have known her I probably could have given her advice but I didn’t know what to say to this stranger that just revealed this to me.  I feel like I maybe dropped the ball here.  I hope she and her family will be okay…  What would you have done?

Interesting situation with the lady in the minivan. I don't know what I would have done, but I think you handled it quite well considering she caught you off guard.

I'm not sure I would have handled that situation any differently... I'm sure she caught you off guard.

Nice job on the killer spin workout. I hope you can make it up and down the stairs today!

Honestly? The cynic in me would have assumed she was trying to either case the neighborhood for theft or work around to asking for money, and worked my way out of the conversation as fast as possible.

Best not to interject your opinion into the lady's personal life. It's take courage to get out, especially with three kids. Giving her the information you asked for exactly as she asked for it was probably the best thing to do :-)

Sometimes, people need to vent, confess, just let things spills out. There is a phenomenon of human nature of revealing one's innermost stuff to a complete stranger. I've done it myself -- and when I used to own my dollar store, I encountered quite frequently.

You handled it great! Besides, I too, would have been worried like Molly said...

I don't think I would have handled the minivan woman sitatuion any differently. Getting caught off guard by a total stranger? It sounds like you handled it well.

Nice job on the spin workout!

Gosh! What a very strange situation! You handled it well. I wonder if she was sincere or up to no good!

I think you did the right thing too! I love Shazam! I saw the conversation on fb about you playing with your iphone during the spin-- i was thinking... uhoh, she got busted!! heehee.

Angie sounds like a great instructor! Though I've never taught spinning before I remember always having to come up with new ways to challenge my students when I used to teach fitness classes.

As for that woman, not sure what I would have said. Hopefully, though, trouble won't follow her.

ooh spaghetti legs. feels good to work that hard, but it is a challenge to walk afterwards! :)

i don't know what i would've said to that lady. pretty awkward... i wouldn't want to get all in her business (even if she was freely doling it out) so i probably would have done the same. "sorry to hear that hope things get better" type deal.

I would have told her to give me $100 or else I'd tell her husband where she's at...but then again...I'm douchebag!
