Getting back at it…

Wow, is it really October already?  September seemed to just fly by.  I pretty well took the whole month off and just enjoyed doing other things…besides training.  So what have I been up to?

I ran a whopping three times, one of which was the Melissa’s 10K Road Race.  And yeah…that race pretty well sucked since running felt awful.  I honestly felt like I hadn’t run for a year, not just a month.  On the plus side I got to meet Laurel who is just as wonderful as you would imagine!

Anyhow, I’m back on a program now so it is time to get my butt off the couch.  A program for what you might be asking…

I decided that I am going to drop the half marathon part of the Goofy Challenge.  I’m going to run the 5K as a warm up and train for the marathon.  I’m hoping to gain some speed back and make a good attempt at a marathon PR.  Right now I’m not sure how much speed is going to come back because I have slowed down a lot….but that is the goal!  I am dropping swimming for the moment and I signed up for a Friday yoga class to mix things up a bit.  Hopefully I can get some strength training in too.

So there we go….back on a plan!!

Oh wow! I cannot believe you are ready to train again. Are you sure? Your decision on Goofy sounds really sensible - and a little bit of speedwork will help you no end!

Yay!

And my life is always better when I make time for yoga.

Ready to train!? Holy moly you are a keener. While I admit to swimming, biking, and running in the last little while, it isn't what even I'd call training. I'm pretty sure most Ironpeople would barely consider it a warmup. But it's fun.

You will love the yoga. Takes a while to get into it, and I don't think I'll ever enjoy walking my downward dog, but I look forward to class every week.

Oh, and I should tell the story of how my coach met my yoga instructor. And talked about me. As if I wasn't there...

I wrote a similar post this week. I'm back on a plan too for the Goofy! I know there won't be a PR so I'm considering another marathon in January or February to go for the PR.

Great to meet you Leana, thanks for the fun!! I had such a wonderful holiday in your gorgeous part of Canada!

Glad you're back training and have revisited your "Goofy" plan. I have a half marathon in October, so running 10K just won't do, I'll have to get my butt off the couch too!

Welcome back. My friend is doing the Goofy Challenge too. Sounds (sort of) fun, I wish I could do part of it.

Interesting decision re: Goofy. That is the crappy thing about the Goofy challenge. I do know of people who have PR'ed at Goofy but I know it is probably not the best confidence booster for a PR attempt. I have wrestled with the idea of doing Goofy vs. having a good marathon showing in the past. Luckily next year, my race attempt is the week before Goofy so I can take that idea off the plate.

Good luck!!
